With these reposts you get the same full bio, art and our storyline concept, but also some behind the scenes thoughts on how and why Fabian (co-writer) and I went about doing what we did (go to the bottom).
As we wind down to the end of February we're dropping a classic character in the indy game- CHAPEL!
Chapel is from the comic Youngblood, created by Image co-founder Rob Liefield and produced under his Extreme imprint label. Check out our update and let us know what you think.
Real Name: Bruce Stinson
Current Alias: Chapel
Identity: Secret
Occupation: Supernatural Mercenary
Place of Birth: Joliet, Illinois
Base of Operations: Mobile
Affiliations: Bloodstrike (formerly),
Youngblood (formerly), Hell (formerly)
First Appearance: Youngblood #1 (1992)
Original Creators: Rob Liefeld
Story: Chapel was born in a prison in Joliet, Illinois, and was seen as the perfect soldier due to his willingness for extreme violence. Driven by an insatiable bloodlust, Chapel’s thirst for violence made it impossible to work with others, as he even turned against his own Youngblood teammates. The man who killed Albert “Al” Simmons out of professional jealousy, Chapel was directly responsible for turning his brother-in-arms into a Hellspawn. His rivalrous vendetta with Simmons drove him further insane, as he killed himself in order to be reborn as a powerful Hellspawn. Instead, Bruce was brought back as “Lord Chapel”, a Horseman of the Apocalypse. When he was separated from this creature, Chapel was resurrected under mysterious circumstances and returned as a woman named Gazer, only to be turned back to a man again and left feeling empty. He then teamed-up with Spawn to face his other half, Lord Chapel. Now a virtually unequaled supernatural bounty hunter and mercenary with no allegiance, Chapel’s goal is to rid the world of all angels, demons, men and gods who were formerly under Lord Chapel’s command and his own heel when he was Lord Chapel.
Powers/Abilities:
Formerly granted enhanced physical attributes by chemical injections, Chapel is
now an enigma. He is seemingly a type of undead via the same demonic sorcery,
alchemy and resurrection used to create Hellspawn, but with a few tweaks.
Unlike other Hellspawns who are fused with a sentient neural parasite made of
necroplasm, Chapel appears to be the reverse, a “stillborn” necroplasm parasite
given physical form and limitations and with the tattered soul of Bruce. Although
not immortal, this reincarnation has rendered Chapel extremely hard to kill
with only decapitation or divine weaponry able to finish him. He not only has
supernatural levels of strength, speed, senses and durability, but also an
unparalleled healing factor, with the caveat of painful regeneration. He can now
also render himself intangible to mortal and supernatural attacks, and he can
phase through solid matter. Chapel has also exhibited a small degree of
telekinesis and telepathy to psychologically torture his targets. Chapel can
now literally feed on violence and rage, even what he creates for himself to
amplify his powers. As such, he is most vulnerable where there is little or no
violent psychic energy. Chapel’s most prominent power is the ability to summon
a myriad of bladed weapons and firearms of his own imagination from his being
at will. The bladed weapons can slice through any Earthly metal and are durable
enough to withstand strikes from divine and demonic counterparts. The guns fire
necromantic energy, which is exhaustible after prolonged use, and would need to
be rejuvenated over time. Due to his many years of military and guerilla
training, Chapel is an exceptional marksman, strategist, tactician and
combatant in both hand-to-hand and firearms.
Paraphernalia:
Although Chapel’s body is a one-stop-shop for virtually any weapon he desires,
he still fancies keeping (and using) a cache of military-grade weapons on Earth
(and elsewhere) in safe houses.
Extra:
Chapel seems to not be as bloodthirsty as before when it comes to harming humans
but has no such limitations when it comes to his supernatural enemies.
