S.O.D

The Darkness 8x10

Finally! Sketch Of the Day begins. I'll try to keep it up for as long as I can. (That's what she said)

So here you have a rough 20-25 min sketch. I really need to practice my speed for conventions but I'm still struggling with maintaining a certain level of quality.

I don't know why The Darkness came to me, I'm not his biggest fan. Sure, it started off well enough, who doesn't like some Garth Ennis, but my interest soon faded. You don't have to spoon feed me, but you gotta give me things that make some kind of sense. A rule his costume has no intention of following. And what's up with those imps. I mean, creating vicious, snarling, blood thirsty little critters is cool , but what's up with these denizens of hell popping up wearing backwards baseball caps and flannel shirts? Not feeling that.

Anywho, that's what these Sketches Of The Day things will be-- whatever pops into my head. And it won't always be comic stuff. So stay tuned.

Cheers

Sunday Drop

Batman vs Clayface(11x17 commission)

So it's Sunday, and as promised I want to drop some "meatier" stuff on you guys. And seeing as I didn't keep my promise of daily sketches last week, I hope this makes up for that.

I've always been a fan of DVD commentary and the  extras in a CD booklet. I like knowing what an artist was thinking when he created a certain piece. I like the mechanics of creativity--Where does it come from..? Do they struggle like I do...?
And it's not just for us artists and creators. It's for anyone who stares at an accident..or watches the Bad Girl's Club. It's the voyeur in us. And one of the things I want to do with this blog is use it to let people in on the man behind the art. Not allll the way yet (cause frankly, I'm not an easy gal, you gotta wine and dine me a little first)...but maybe just a peek every now and again. And something happened recently that made me question myself as an artist.

I won't get into specifics of what it was, but I will reveal this: the piece you see above was a late commission. Very late. And I can't apologize enough to the owner. But whether late or not, 3 things are always going to happen:
1) I'm always going to admit when I'm wrong.
2) You're WILL receive your piece
3) I'm going to leave my heart on that page.

Whether you end up liking the piece or not isn't in my power to control, but best believe, you're walking away with a little bit of Shawn Alleyne in your hands.

Ummmm..you know what I mean.

Peace.

Mega Con Commissions

(9x12 in sketchbook. Pencil w/copic pens)

What's up peeps. More stuff to plug but daily sketches should be starting tomorrow.

Come next week I'll be at MegaCon in Florida, from March 25th-27th. If you're coming to the show and are interested in a pyroglyphic commission for pick up, I believe I can fit some in between my other gigs. These prices are my convention rates and do not reflect my regular rates, so these are a deal, if I do say so myself. Here's some quick info:

1) 8x10 for $20
2) An 8x10 medium for $35
3) A nice 11x14 piece for $75.
4) An 11x 14 piece with extra detail, slightly inked for $100.
5) OR, an 11x14 piece, with all the bells and whistles, FULLY inked, for $125.
All pieces will be on bristol board and (obviously) you keep the original.
Hit me up if you have any questions.

Above is an example of what a typical pick-up con sketch might look like. This was done for Jeff Smith in his sketchbook as an extra for being late on his original commission. This Bane piece is the standard I want to set at all cons, but I'm still trying to cope with the pressure of time management and people watching you draw. Not to mention balancing talking to people and selling stuff. MegaCon will serve as another test to find out what works for me and what doesn't.

So how do you guys cope with pressure? Do you feel any? If you just go to buy, do you mind if an artist takes long as long as it's hot? Feel free to share any con experiences you've had..on both sides of the table.

Peace

Let The Battle Begin!!

What's up peeps..I hope you're well. It seems where ever you turn today there's always some tragedy occurring. Please take a moment and thank whoever you get down with for the little things in life.

So..this was supposed to be the start of my daily sketch blogs but I forgot one tiny detail-- the fact that I'm an art whore who has rented out my drawing hand to others resulting in many things to shamelessly plug.

Case in point, the upcoming Marvel Vs Capcom Tournament taking place next Tuesday, March 22nd from 7-11pm at Steaks On South. Located @ 308 Sth St. I'll be there selling prints and doing sketches so stop through.

From top left: Doc Doom, Galactus, Albert Wesker, Captain America, Dark Phoenix, Iron Man, Random-kid-supposed-to-represent-the-player-standing-on-a-cheesesteak-I-was-told-to-put-there-but-didn't-want-to, Crimson Viper, Dante and Chris Redfield.
Colors by modern day renaissance man  Blair Smith.

Oh, and yes, before I receive any comments and critiques, the player's face is supposed to be blank so as to allow the viewer to project their identity on to it. Believe it or not there's usually a method to my madness.

Enjoy your day and God willing, catch you tomorrow.

Never Say Never!

"Never!!"
That was me a little while ago, referring to getting a blogspot. "What's the point?", I asked many a person from atop my high horse. Well, it's amazing how your tastes can change as soon as you try something new. Case in point: Peanut Butter Cap'n Crunch. Mmm.

I shouldn't even be doing this -- I'm a slow artist as it is-- but here I am about to get into a daily sketch blog. Yes, you read right, A DAILY SKETCH BLOG(!!), brilliantly titled "Sketch Of the Day" or S.O.D.
Genius right? Can I do it? Don't have a clue. I'll also have various quick updates as well as thoughts, insights, scribbles, and whatever else I damn well feel like.

Now I know you can't wait for all that face melting S.O.D goodness, but alas, that won't be starting till next week.

In the meantime, send any ideas for sketches you would like to see. No Original Characters though. I'll be doing daily sketches with extra special pieces dropping every Sunday.
And oh yeah, the originals will be for sale if you like. Just send me an email and we can work it out.
pyroglyphics1@comcast.net
Pieces will be on 8.5x11 paper with inks, and prices may vary with an additional $5 for S/H.

Yo, I think that's about it for now..catch you later peeps.
